The FIAV Gavel was sponsored in 1969 by Klaes Sierksma of the Stichting voor Baniestiek en Heraldiek (SBH) in the Netherlands. It was made by Sierksma’s younger daughter Coba, who made it for her final exams for the Middle School for Horticulture.
It has been used at every ICV since Boston. Each ICV organizer was given the responsibility to engrave the Gavel, or to label it another way. Secretary-General Emeritus Charles A. Spain FF had the FIAV Flag and full FIAV name engraved by laser on the Gavel’s handle during his term in the office.
